How to reach Ljubljana

Ljubljana Airport is the main airport in Slovenia and is located about 20 km north of Ljubljana in the direction of Kranj. You can also fly to one of the cities in the neighbouring countries (e.g., Trieste, Venice, Zagreb, Rijeka, Graz …) and then take the GoOpti shuttle transfer, bus, train or rental car to Ljubljana.

If you fly to Ljubljana Airport, you have the following options to reach Ljubljana city centre:

  • Taxi (can be expensive)
  • The bus from the airport to Ljubljana city centre runs every 30–60 minutes between 7 and 20 (schedule of all buses to Ljubljana here). You can buy the ticket from the bus driver. It costs about 4 EUR.
  • Book a shuttle in advance that can take you directly to your accommodation. We have three providers: GoOpti, ZUP and Nomago. It costs from 12 EUR.
  • Rent–a–car (list of providers here)

Public transport in Ljubljana

Ljubljana is not very large and you can walk most places. Taxis are of course also available, while Uber is not.

The main public transport are buses, which are explained here. You can find maps here. To travel by bus, you need the Urbana card, which can be purchased at Urbanomat ticket machines and some other places. Instead of buying a physical card, you can also use the Urbana mobile application (Android, Apple).

Line number 1 has a stop in front of JSI, 10m from the conference venue and Line 6 has a stop 5 minutes of walking away from the bus stop.

Bike sharing service in Ljubljana

Ljubljana also offers a bike rental service called BicikeLJ. For 1 EUR/week, you can have unlimited rides of up to 60 minutes. The bike stations are spread around Ljubljana (2 are close to JSI) and in June (if not raining) this is a really nice way to get around Ljubljana.

Online registration or mobile application (Android, Apple) is required. The application holds all of the necessary information about the bike stations, available bikes and empty places.
